ANNOUNCES LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS, HEADLINE ENTERTAINMENT
Indio, CA, January 30, 2023 -- Pickering Events LLC, producers of the family-favorite Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival presented by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, in collaboration with Butler Amusements, will award $20,000 in scholarship funding to residents of Riverside County who are chosen as qualifying high school seniors in the Class of 2023.
"Ten winners will receive $2,000 each to pursue their studies beyond high school," said Chris Pickering, Founding Partner of Pickering Events. "Winners will also receive a Season Pass to the 2023 Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival presented by Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, which starts on February 17.
"By applying for the Date Festival Scholarship, students will become part of a 75-year tradition. The Fair & Date Fest is the largest event in the county centered on celebrating community achievement and, in addition to awarding Blue Ribbons, we want to honor and emphasize exceptional student achievement," added Pickering.
“We are delighted to continue supporting local scholarships in Riverside County,” said Lance Moyer, President of Butler Amusements, one of the largest carnival companies in the Western United States. “Our founder Butch Butler believed in investing in our youth and preparing them for future success.”
To be considered for a Date Festival Scholarship award, students will be required to have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 (unweighted). They must complete The Date Festival Scholarship Application online at www.datefest.org/p/about/2023-date-festival-scholarship-program); submit a 500-word essay on the topic “The Importance of Community;” provide unofficial transcripts grades including unweighted cumulative GPA from the attendance office plus official transcripts, and (4) submit their school identification card.
All required information must be properly submitted by Friday, February 3, by 11:59 p.m., and finalists must be available for a Zoom interview either Sunday, February 12, between 3 and 6 p.m. or Monday, February 13, between 6 and 9 p.m. Once eligible submissions are reviewed, finalists will be notified by Monday, February 6.

From February 17-26, 2023, The Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival takes place at the Riverside County Fairgrounds at 82-503 CA Highway 111, Indio, 92201. For ten days, feature attractions unique to Riverside County will include exhilarating carnival rides, live music, date cooking demonstrations, Blue Ribbon competitions, cute farm animals, and your favorite fair foods.
